I aim to misbehave

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: I'll take the shuttle in closer. Zoe, ship is yours. Remember, if anything happens to me, or you don't hear from me within the hour... you take this ship and you come and you rescue me.
Zoë
: What? And risk my ship?
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: I mean it. It's cold out there. I don't wanna get left.

The best thing about going to events like the midnight show of Serenity last weekend at the Coolidge Corner Theater are the uninhibited fun and the camaraderie. Some lament the nerds in costume, but I applaud people who unabashedly love something, wear their love on their sleeves, and go to a place where they can express that joy together. It's like opening night all over again. People cheer louder, laugh harder, and get collectively choked up when their favorite characters get shot or spiked.

What's more, people are just friendly. At the end of the movie I yelled across the rows of seats to a group in costume "hey, can I get a picture with your crew?" and they happily consented. They even snapped some pictures that were more than my lowly camera phone could manage and emailed them to me.

They say old community values are dead? I know that they're alive and well -- in space.

Zombies United!

Who would have thought that covering yourself with blood and going with a stroll on a hot afternoon could be so fun?

Highlights:

  • "Attacking" Starbucks. Appropriately, the Good Will was undisturbed and unmolested by our passing.
  • Waiting for the bus with the kindly locals.
  • Watching people shop for guitars. They were unaware we were hovering behind them for the longest time. When they noticed, they had the good sense to crack up laughing and send us on our way.

The Zombies Are Coming!

This Saturday Halfway to Human is staging the annual Zombie March! The undead will gather in Davis Square in Somerville at 6:30 and march to Harvard Square to remind citizens of the struggle to stay free of the brain eating hordes that could attack us at any moment!

As far as I can tell, the event is open to anyone who wants to join, it's free, and it ends in beer. I'm going. Are you? Join USSSSS!
